The hardware PC giant Intel is all set to uproar software industry with their announcement on acquiring the antivirus giant Mcafee for a whopping $7.68 billion deal (more than what Oracle paid to acquire Sun Microsystems). The actual per share is $48 which Mcafee will get for it s acquisition by Intel. According to Intel’s newsroom:
“Acquisition enables a combination of security software and hardware from one company to ultimately better protect consumers, corporations and governments as billions of devices – and the server and cloud networks that manage them – go online.”
The Intel further confirms that McAfee will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary, reporting into Intel’s Software and Services Group. This deal reminds of the fact that world is getting smaller in IT.
Last year the Sun Microsystems acquisition by Oracle hit headlines and now this one. Hope the flavor of competition does not gets disturbed when big players are rapidly consuming smaller ones.
